Aquarium Fun!

Jared and I decided to take Colt to see the "fishies" at the Houston Aquarium last Sunday...and let me tell you - it was definitely worth the money!  Granted it is a very small aquarium and if you only do the fish exhibit, it goes very quickly...BUT, seeing Colt's face and reaction was priceless!  It actually was a very neat place to visit and once Colt gets a little older, we will be able to participate in more of the activities.  Our friends (and Colt's Godmother) Christen and Thomas joined us for the day and we had a blast!

I highly recommend this place for kids and adults of all ages!!!

Maifest

This past weekend marked the 121st Maifest Celebration here in Brenham, Texas.  It is the oldest spring German festival in the south and is held Mother's Day weekend every year.  Highlights of the Brenham Maifest include extravagant parades, elegant coronations and children's activities and culminates with the Maifestival.  We had a great time watching the parades and all the beautiful and fantastic costumes.  Colt is a little too young to be "in" Maifest, but he got to enjoy riding in the Silver Wings skate car with his Uncle Jimbo.  It was a kickoff to a great Mother's Day!  I hope all you mothers and mothers-to-be had a relaxing and stress-free day!

My First Re-Do

So, after weeks and weeks of being oooo'd and awwww'd by all the blogs out there, I decided it was my turn to try my hand at a re-do.  I had my first OMG moment when I came across Paper Flower Drive and saw this amazing couch re-do.  If you haven't visited her blog, YOU SHOULD!  This couch turned bench is FABULOUS!  It made me want to find every ugly fugly piece of furniture and turn it into something wonderful.  But, first things first.  I am being relocated at my job into a cave suite of rooms that have drab colored walls, mud brown carpet and absolutely no life to them at all.  I took it upon myself to find some paint colors that brightened up the place since I am going to live there for 40 hours a week!  My first notion was to find some "new" chairs that I could paint and reupholster.  I searched and searched at garage sales and our local thrift store, and finally came across these beauties.
(Don't mind the mess behind the chair - we are preparing for a garage sale!)  So, I found these wonderful chairs at a local garage sale, sitting outside in the elements and collecting dirt and dust.  They are counter height and are a great black color with a distressed look.  I got 3 for $20 - what a steal!  My plan was to take them home, repaint them, glaze them and reupholster the seats.  My husband took one look at the chairs and rolled his eyes was so excited to help me fix them up for my office! So, we took the gazillion staples out of the bottom of the seat and found a fully intact seat cushion and wooden frame!  During one of our many trips to Hobby Lobby, I found some AMAZING material that I LOVE LOVE LOVE!  Once we got the new material cut, we stapled it back onto the seat and attached it back to the chair.  I ended up loving it so much that I decided to forget about repainting the chair itself!  Here is the finished product...
Isn't that material GREAT?  I can't wait to get them into my new cave office!

Here We Go Again...

It is amazing how your life can change just by stumbling upon one little website out there in no mans land!  Several months ago I came across the most WON-DER-FUL blog out there, All Things Thrifty.  Since then, many of my waking hours have been spent searching, surfing, googling, linking and on and on….just to find what treasures have been posted within the past 24 hours.  I have been surprised, amazed, baffled…and most of all, INSPIRED by all the amazing ladies out there!  So, where does that leave me?  Well, let’s just say I thought I would give it a go as well!

Just a little about me to begin with.  First, I should note, that this is my second go round at blogging.  The first one didn’t go so well WAS A DISASTER!  I never took the time to update it, I let life get in the way, and I just plain got bored.  My husband will laugh and tell you that my “undiagnosed ADD” kicked in and I just couldn’t hack it.  But honestly, I just never had the inspiration that I do now!

Now, on to me (see, I must have ADD).  I am a FTWM (full time working mother) of a rowdy precious 2 year old boy, Colt.  I am married to an insanely fun and understanding husband, Jared.  Together, those two boys make up my entire world.  I am a Physician Assistant by weekday and a thrifter/crafter by night and weekend.  I work full time, so it is hard for me to find the time to do the things I love…but I vow to do it ALL!  Bare with me, because one day I hope to be the one inspiring someone out there!  Until then, I am just living life…one 2-step at a time!
